What’s Happening in Northeast Florida

December 13th, 2013 · Leave a Comment

We’re in the midst of the holidays, so be sure not to miss Jacksonville’s most treasured events. On our short list is the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Pops series, with shows Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m.

The performances at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts feature conductor Michael Butterman, vocalist/pianist Tony DeSare, the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus and the Douglas Anderson Dance Theatre. Visit the symphony website for tickets.

And then just try to leave the show NOT in the holiday spirit!

If the St. Augustine area is more convenient, you should attend the annual Sounds of the Season holiday concert by the St. Augustine Orchestra and the Christ Episcopal Church choir on Friday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. at the Lightner Museum and Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach.

The program will include selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” and “The Nutcracker,” as well as two competing versions of “Sleigh Ride.”

Tickets are $15 and available at the door

For non-holiday fare, have you checked out “Flashdance – The Musical?” For God’s sake, why not!?

Part of the Artist Series Five-Show Broadway in Jacksonville Series, the pop culture phenomenon of the 1980s is only in town for a few more days at the Times Union Center for Performing Arts.

Remaining shows are Friday, Dec. 13 (8 p.m. and 11 p.m.), Saturday, Dec. 14 (2 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 16 (1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.)

Finally, let’s not forget our Jacksonville Jaguars are in town for a game against the Buffalo Bills at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 at EverBank Field.

Have you heard – the Jaguars are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs? The AFC’s hottest team has won four of their last five games, and need help from the “12th player –“ the fans – to win another.

For information on tickets, visit the Jags box office online.
