Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens ZOOLights

Just because Christmas is passed, it doesn’t mean the holiday season is over. So if you haven’t checked out any large light displays, consider visiting St. Augustine – or the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.

ZOOLights features thousands of LED lights that transform the zoo into a luminous winter wonderland filled with moving sculptures, forests of lighted trees and animal sculputures.

There’s a nightly snowfall, festive holiday music, a fire pit for roasting marshmallows, train rides, a skating rink, games and activities.

The special event takes place each night through Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (and 9:30 p.m. on other weekdays.)

For more information and tickets, visit the zoo’s website.

Landing Christmas tree and Friendship Fountain

You can also get a final fix of filament-al festiveness by visiting the Christmas tree at The Jacksonville Landing then strolling across the Main Street Bridge for a viewing two-fer at Friendship Fountain.

The fountain is featuring holiday music synched to the lighted water display for a truly beautiful seasonal treat.

The fountain runs 24-7, but for more information about holiday programming at the Landing, check out its calendar of events.

Sweet Pete’s Candy Cane-making

The season begins to wind down as pages of the 2013 calendar empty and make way for 2014. So, if you’re looking for a final, unique holiday activity, why not try a candy cane making class at Sweet Pete’s?

The Jacksonville candy-maker located in historic Springfield conducts the classes by reservation for $15 per person. So grab a couple of friends or family members and give Sweet Pete’s a call at (904) 376-7161.

TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl

Finally, you’d also better get your live football fix before that is gone, too. This year’s TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at noon at EverBank Field features Nebraska vs. Georgia in a rematch of a bowl game between these two last year.

If you’re a Bulldogs fan, you definitely need to be there to support your team. If you just enjoy football, the Cornhuskers are one of our nation’s top programs, having won five national titles.

Tickets are still available.

The Gator Bowl Parade
