JEA received a “Building Strong Communities” award from the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) for making valuable investments that enhance the quality of life for the Jacksonville community. FMEA presented the award today (Oct. 28) at its Energy Connections Conference & Trade Show in Jacksonville.

FMEA recognized JEA and other public power utilities for programs and projects that provide school and community education, collect charitable donations, provide customer payment assistance, and other special programs that strengthen the communities in which they serve. JEA received recognition for the following community initiatives in the past year:

• Senior Day at JEA: Monthly event connecting vulnerable senior customers with essential financial resources to help manage their utility bills.
• Ambassador Program Partnership with Junior Achievement: Delivered 706 classroom experiences, reaching 39,852 students during a five-year period.
• Education Program: Provides free education resources to grades K-12 in the Duval County Public School System.
• Power Pals, A three-week program taught by JEA employees. The program reaches first-grade students about electric safety through fun and interactive activities.
• College Internships: Provides high school and college students a variety of internship and mentoring programs.
• JEA Season of Giving Employee Campaign: fundraising activities to support local United Way and Creating Healthier Charities agencies.
