Northeast Florida couple finds their perfect home at The John Gorrie a condominium

March 18th, 2014 · Leave a Comment

For more than a dozen years, Mark and Sherry Axler called Ponte Vedra Beach their home. After relocating to Northeast Florida from New York, the couple lived in a magnificent Mediterranean estate located near Guana Preserve equipped with a pool and tennis court.

While the Axlers loved their home, they wanted freedom from the maintenance and responsibilities that come with home ownership. The Axlers knew it was time to downsize and began looking for a condominium or townhome. They found what they wanted, and more, at The John Gorrie a condominium.

“I had never lived in a condominium before so I didn’t know what to expect,” Mark Axler said. “What impressed me the most when I walked in The John Gorrie were the 12-foot ceilings and 13 windows throughout the condominium that is now our home.”

The Axlers moved into their new two-bedroom, two-bath home at The John Gorrie last summer and are enjoying the many conveniences of their low-maintenance condominium lifestyle.

“We love living at The John Gorrie,” said Axler, who works for Cardinal Entities. “I’m just five minutes away from my office and I don’t miss the drive from Ponte Vedra at all. What we really love is that if we want to go somewhere, we don’t have to worry about our home. We just lock the door and go.”

The Axlers are always on the go, frequently taking off on weekend getaways to their vacation home in the Carolina Mountains. Closer to home, the Axlers are avid tennis players and enjoy playing at the Boone Park Tennis Complex which is just minutes from The John Gorrie. They love the neighborhood and their neighbors.

“There are so many nice people who live at The John Gorrie,” Axler said. “Our neighbors encompass a good spectrum of both young and old. We really like the variety of our community.”

Designed by distinguished Jacksonville architects Benjamin and Greeley, The John Gorrie a condominium showcases the Mediterranean Revival architecture popular in the early 1920s. Inside, the residences feature original historic architectural elements such as an exposed brick wall along with modern luxuries including gourmet kitchens equipped with stainless steel appliances, CaesarStone countertops and hardwood floors. The Axlers not only love the amalgamation of their home’s historic and modern style, but its tremendous value.

“In New York, it would cost more than $4 million for a condominium like this,” Axler said. “The John Gorrie offers one of the best values in the market.”

The Axlers were thrilled to learn because of the buildings’ historic elements and significance every homeowner at The John Gorrie a condominium will receive an ad valorem tax abatement toward their homeowner’s tax bill through 2021.
