Most Jobs Announced at Midyear Since 2006

Chambers Unite to Support Regional Agenda

Recommendations designed to take the Northeast Florida economy to a new level are outlined in the Northeast Florida 2013 Advocacy Agenda. The agenda was developed with collaborative input from chambers of commerce and other local leaders to identify priorities and opportunities for job growth and creation throughout the region. The agenda outlines local, state and federal issues in six areas that will impact future economic growth in the region. The six areas include: business climate, small business, physical infrastructure, workforce, education and military.

JAX Chamber and JAXUSA Partnership Year in Review

JAX Chamber President Wally Lee to Retire

The JAX Chamber has announced Chamber President Walter (Wally) M. Lee, III, plans to retire from the organization in March 2013. He will step down as chief executive officer of the Chamber on Dec. 31, 2012, but continue in an advisory role through next March. Jerry Mallot, president of JAXUSA Partnership, will serve as interim president and CEO of the Chamber, effective Jan. 1, 2013. Chamber vice president Anna Valent will assume additional operational and administrative duties. The Chamber Board of Directors is forming a search committee to hire a long-term president and CEO.

Recycling Center Creates New Jobs for the Region

A new recycling facility is bringing more jobs to the region! Republic Services opened its 70,000 square-foot regional material recovery facility located in northwest Jacksonville on Imeson Road and will create 30 new jobs. The facility represents a $16 million capital investment in the region.

Leadership Jacksonville Announces “Jacksonville Legacy Series” Will Highlight City Leaders

Leadership Jacksonville, a program that develops youth and adult leaders in Northeast Florida, recently hosted its annual Patron Appreciation Reception to honor past presidents, alumni and donors. At the event, Leadership Jacksonville’s board president Jerry Mallot announced a new nonprofit initiative by the organization titled the “Jacksonville Legacy Series,” which will be an ongoing video series showcasing some of the region’s most prominent leaders who positively impact the First Coast community.

Leadership Jacksonville, a program that develops youth and adult leaders in Northeast Florida, recently announced it is now accepting applications for the Collegiate Leadership Experience (CLE) Class of 2012. The program is a unique opportunity for college students to interact with community leaders, network with professionals, go behind the scenes to explore difficult issues facing the community and learn from the program’s successes. While exploring what is means to be a community trustee, students learn from each other through interactive and problem-solving activities.

ULI Emerging Trends Event Reveals Predictions for 2012 Real Estate Market

Urban Land Institute (ULI) North Florida hosted its annual “Emerging Trends in Real Estate” program last night at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. The event drew more than 100 attendees who had the chance to listen to national and local speakers discuss trends and forecasts for 2012, including featured guest speaker Dean Schwanke, executive director for the ULI Center for Capital Markets and Real Estate and senior vice president for ULI in Washington, D.C.

Mayor Brown and Business Leaders to Promote Northeast Florida in Brazil

A delegation of Jacksonville business leaders, including Mayor Alvin Brown and JAXUSA Partnership President Jerry Mallot, will join Gov. Rick Scott in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sunday for a five-day economic development mission to promote Northeast Florida and help attract new business. The mission, organized by Enterprise Florida, provides an opportunity to interact and build relationships with international companies and industry leaders who may consider expanding or relocating to the region.
