Being environmentally friendly can come with an expensive price tag, which is why award-winning builder GreenPointe Homes developed an Intelligent Green building program with features that are included in all GreenPointe Homes and will assist homeowners with reducing costs on their electric bills. The Intelligent Green program has won favor with homeowners at Cedar Bay, a single-family home neighborhood which offers river marsh views, wooded preserve areas and an ideal setting along the Broward River.

The program places an emphasis on technologies that directly affect the cost of total home ownership as well as construction products and processes that lend sustainability to building homes. Some of these features include:

  • Radiant barrier roof sheathing. This feature considerably lowers solar heat gain into the homes. It is installed in the attic to lower attic temperatures, which according to JEA, is a critical component of energy efficiency and can help save up to 20 percent on your electric bill.
  • Save water. Kitchens and bathrooms are equipped with water-saving dishwaters, toilets and plumbing fixtures.
  •  Low-E Windows. All the homes are built with Low-E windows, which according to JEA, can reduce 3-5 percent of the cooling portion of your utility bill if done throughout the house. In all GreenPointe Homes, the Low-E windows are designed specifically for the geographical area in which the home is built in order to maintain heat in the home during the winter as well as maintain cool temperatures in the home during the summer air conditioning season.
  • Advanced techniques. Extensive measures are taken to ensure an infiltration-free building is also included in all homes.
  • Programmable thermostat. This feature allows homeowners to save energy by allowing multiple time and temperature settings.
  • Advanced framing techniques. Homeowners have access to energy-efficient features, resulting in tighter construction and reduced thermal bridging. This allows greater benefits from property installed insulation.
  • Air pressure balancing. This is incorporated into each home and provides balanced pressure from room to room resulting in better circulation of air and more even temperatures throughout the home.

Cedar Bay is located in North Jacksonville and is convenient to River City Marketplace, Jacksonville International Airport and minutes from downtown Jacksonville. The Cedar Bay Community Park offers the perfect place for get-togethers, family outings and celebrations with amenities such as community grills, tables and benches that overlook the Broward River, a shade structure and playground equipment for children.  Residents will also enjoy numerous natural amenities as well as a convenient location close to the city’s major employers and nearby shopping and dining opportunities.
