How about a laugh this weekend? “Blue-Collar Comedy” performer Ron White takes the stage Friday, March 14 at The Times-Union Center for Performing Arts for a show beginning at 8 p.m.

Best known as the cigar-smoking, scotch-drinking funnyman, “Tater Salad” White returns to Jacksonville with a new stand-up show, “A Little Unprofessional.”

White has acheived two Grammy nominations, a Gold Record, two of the top-rated one-hour specials in Comedy Central history and a book that appear on The New York Times’ bestsellers list.

Gate River Run, Saturday, March 15

There may still a little time left to register for the annual Gate River Run, the nation’s largest 15K event that starts near EverBank Field at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15.

If you decide not to run, consider cheering on the runners and enjoying the spectacle along the event’s 9.3-mile course – along which more than 10,000 runners will pass over two to three hours.

If you’re not up for a 15K race, there is also an option for a 5K run. That race also begins at 8:30 a.m. near the sports complex.

Dali Exhibit at Avondale Artworks, March 14-16

So, we’ve recommended an indoor event, and an outdoor event. Might as well make it an eclectic weekend, as well, by suggesting an arty event, too.

A museum-quality collection of works of Salvador Dali has come to the Avondale Artworks art gallery on St. Johns Avenue, with opportunities to view them Friday, March 14, Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.

The pieces are from Dali’s Suites, including Mythologie, Les Hippies, Goethe’s Fuast and Poemes Secrets d’Appollinaire. This collection is made available by the Argillet Estate.
