What’s Happening in Northeast Florida

April 4th, 2014 · Leave a Comment

It’s time for baseball, everyone! The Jacksonville Suns opened their regular season on Thursday night, and will continue their home stand against Huntsville with games also scheduled daily from Friday, April 4 through Tuesday, April 7 at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Suns defeated the Stars, 3-1, on Opening Night, and will be looking to extend their winning ways in Southern League play.

Visit the Suns box office website for ticket information, games times and details of daily promotions.

Looking for down-home fun? Check out the Clay County Agricultural Fair, which begins Saturday, April 5 and runs through April 12.

The fair features food, livestock, rides and live entertainment, including a performance by former American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler, who takes the stage on April 12. There’s an Early Florida Village, pig races, roller coasters – and all sorts of foods battered and dropped into deep-fryer.

For information about hours and ticket prices, visit the fair’s online box office.

For the little ones, Disney is in town again – this time for Disney on Ice Rockin’ Ever After at Veterans Memorial Arena on April 3 through April 6.

The show features many magical idols performing the hottest tunes from the Disney Kingdom. Jam to a Scottish jig with music from the Disney Pixar film, Brave. And experience a show-stopping performance as Sebastian breaks out of his shell for one night only to make waves with Ariel.

There are both matinee and evening show times, so check here for more information.

For a truly uplifting experience, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art on Sunday, April 6 for the Rainbow Artists Exhibition Reception, beginning at 2 p.m., and see the art of autistic children on display.

The art is a result of MOCA’s educational outreach program Rainbow Artists: Art and Autism Across the Spectrum and is on exhibit during National Autism Awareness Month.

While children with autism struggle with verbal communication, social relations and sensory development, creative art-making activities enable them to foster new means of self-expression and communication.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information and to register, visit MOCA’s event page.
