What’s Happening in Northeast Florida

July 25th, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Let’s not hear any complaints there’s nothing to do this weekend. As we approach mid-summer, we also find ourselves heading into a busy couple of days for entertainment.

At EverBank Field on Saturday, July 26, Jacksonville Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan’s Fulham soccer club of the Premier League plays DC United of Major League Soccer in a “friendly” match beginning at 6 p.m.

Then stick around because Khan, and the Jaguars, at 8 p.m. unveil two of the world’s largest stadium videoboards recently erected at each end of EverBank field. They measure about 60 feet high by 300 feet long. If you can’t be at the stadium, reports say the boards are visible from about 12 miles away – so try poking your head out a window.

If that’s not enough, country superstar and Grammy Award-winner Carrie Underwood performs a concert beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets to the Jaguars Mega Event are nearly sold out, but visit Ticketmaster for details.

Prefer glamor mixed with competition? Check out the Mrs. International 2014 competition on Saturday, July 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at The Times-Union Center for Performing Arts.

The event has given each contestant from countries around the world a chance to learn about cultures and family life in other countries during a week that culminates in competition to crown a new Mrs. International.

The price of admission is about $60 and tickets are available at Ticketmaster.

They say Sunday is a day of rest, but when there’s this much to do it’s difficult not to get out there. Fall Out Boy performs at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m.

The band’s Save Rock and Roll is a gold-certified fifth album for the Grammy-nominated artists. It features platinum hit “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up.)”

Tickets begin at $35 – a small price to pay – and are still available online at Ticketmaster.
