So just how green do you think our city is? According to the latest report from the “Green Cities Index,” Jacksonville ranks No. 27 among 43 U.S. metro areas in a report on America’s green cities.
The index, which was compiled by the American City Business Journals chain, ranked metro areas on a variety of environmental factors, including travel time, use of public transit, urban sprawl, LEED certified projects, green jobs per capita, water quality and carbon emissions.
Wondering who made No. 1 on the list? Here are the Top 5 green cities in America according to the Green Cities Index:
- Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton metro are in Oregon and Washington
- San Francisco-Oakland-Freemont area
- Honolulu
- Austin, Texas
- Boston-Cambridge area
