How Green is Jacksonville?

So just how green do you think our city is? According to the latest report from the “Green Cities Index,” Jacksonville ranks No. 27 among 43 U.S. metro areas in a report on America’s green cities.

The index, which was compiled by the American City Business Journals chain, ranked metro areas on a variety of environmental factors, including travel time, use of public transit, urban sprawl, LEED certified projects, green jobs per capita, water quality and carbon emissions.

Wondering who made No. 1 on the list? Here are the Top 5 green cities in America according to the Green Cities Index:

  • Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton metro are in Oregon and Washington
  • San Francisco-Oakland-Freemont area
  • Honolulu
  • Austin, Texas
  • Boston-Cambridge area
