The ULI North Florida’s Monthly Members Breakfast Series featured the Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s (JAA) executive director Steve Grossman.
Steve got the group up-to-speed on the economic impact JAA has on Northeast Florida’s growth and development with a focus on Cecil Commerce Center.
Here are some interesting facts:
- Currently there are 3,000 employees at Cecil Commerce Center and the goal is to have 6,000 in 5 years and 10,000 in 10 years
- Cecil Commerce Center is designated as the 8th commercial space port in the U.S.
- It is the only commercial space port on the East coast
- It is the only commercial space port with a potential for tourism
- Cecil Commerce Center is one of the most successful military base conversions and has great potential
- All of the buildings are currently leased
- There is plenty of land for development
- One of the main goals for Cecil Commerce Center is to become one of the prime economic engines for Jacksonville
- Cecil Commerce Center’s advantage is the airfield
- Jacksonville has great aviation assets with four airports that don’t compete but compliment one another: Jacksonville International Airport; Cecil Field is an industry airport; Craig Municipal Airport is a business airport; and Herlong Airport is a recreational airport.
