Jacksonville Classical Academy, a new public nonprofit charter school serving Duval County, recently celebrated a construction milestone with a topping-off ceremony. The celebration is traditionally observed when the final beam is placed at the top of the structure.
The school’s campus, located in historic Mixon Town on the site of the former Forest Park Elementary, is under construction by Summit Contracting Group, Inc., and will be open to serve students in grades K-6 when the 2020-2021 school year begins this fall. Jacksonville Classical Academy is affiliated with the renowned Hillsdale College, through its Barney Charter School Initiative.
The first year will begin with kindergarten through sixth grade and will be open to approximately 650 students, selected by random lottery. More enrollment information can be found at jaxclassical.org/enroll.
Grades will be added each year to reach K-12 with a total capacity of approximately 1,000 students. JCA’s charter application was unanimously approved by the Duval County School Board on May 7, 2019.
