JAX Chamber and JAXUSA Partnership Year in Review

JAX Chamber President Wally Lee to Retire

The JAX Chamber has announced Chamber President Walter (Wally) M. Lee, III, plans to retire from the organization in March 2013. He will step down as chief executive officer of the Chamber on Dec. 31, 2012, but continue in an advisory role through next March. Jerry Mallot, president of JAXUSA Partnership, will serve as interim president and CEO of the Chamber, effective Jan. 1, 2013. Chamber vice president Anna Valent will assume additional operational and administrative duties. The Chamber Board of Directors is forming a search committee to hire a long-term president and CEO.

JAX Chamber’s Leadership Trip to Cincinnati Highlights Revitalization and Reform Initiatives

Business leaders have returned from the JAX Chamber’s 32nd annual Leadership Trip to Cincinnati. With the theme “Making Things Happen,” the trip focused on learning how Cincinnati’s top area leaders addressed Downtown revitalization, economic development, public-private partnerships, education reform and sports and entertainment marketing. More than 125 trip attendees met with Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber leaders, a city manager and the mayor, economic development executives and area business leaders.

JAX Chamber Welcomes New Duval County School Board Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti

The Duval County School Board coordinated an exhaustive and inclusive process, including participation from the JAX Chamber and business community, to ensure it had three high-quality finalists from which to choose.

JAX Chamber Offices Will Move Temporarily

The JAX Chamber is on the move! Today Chamber executives announced its staff and operations will temporarily relocate as the building undergoes extensive renovations and becomes Downtown’s New Front Door. The Chamber offices will close Nov. 1-2 and will re-open Monday, Nov. 5 at the BBVA/Compass Building off Gate Parkway. All building offices and services along with 54 Chamber employees will temporarily move during the renovation, which is expected to take about seven months to complete.

JAX Chamber Encourages Businesses to Remind Employees about the Importance of School Attendance

The new school year is approaching, and the JAX Chamber is encouraging businesses to remind employees about the importance of the first day of school and provide greater flexibility for employees during the first two weeks. New bus routes and preparations for school create a busy environment for families. Employers can assist with the transition by reinforcing the importance of day one, reminding employees to plan schedules ahead of time, and when appropriate, offering flexible work schedules.

JAX Chamber Hosts Military Appreciation Luncheon

More than 900 people attended the Military Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the JAX Chamber Monday at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. A Chamber tradition, the annual luncheon brings the business community together to honor the brave men and women from all branches of the local military community, including active duty, reservists, veterans and their families.
