THE PLAYERS Championship announced today that the 2019 tournament generated a record $9.25 million for Northeast Florida charities. This brings the total to more than $100 million that has directly supported charitable and non-profit organizations in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties since the tournament’s inception in 1974.
In addition to announcing the 2019 total, THE PLAYERS Executive Director Jared Rice presented $1 million to Flagler Healthcare Foundation to help fund a youth behavioral and mental health program in St. Johns County Public Schools. Rice was joined by tournament leadership and key state and area leaders for today’s announcement at Allen D. Nease High School. Attendees included 2019 tournament chairman Adam Campbell, State of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ wife Casey DeSantis, Flagler Health+ CEO Jason Barrett and St. Johns County Public Schools’ Superintendent Tim Forson.
“It is our responsibility to help strengthen and improve the lives of citizens in the communities where we live, work, and host this great championship,” said Jared Rice, Executive Director of THE PLAYERS. “THE PLAYERS’ charitable impact is made possible because of the collective, year-round efforts and commitment from our volunteers, Proud Partners, sponsors, vendors, business and civic leaders, media and fans. Everyone plays a valuable role in helping this tournament achieve more charitable milestones and impact more lives year after year.”
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the team of 2,000-plus volunteers who work tirelessly year-round to execute this championship and who allow THE PLAYERS to generate this incredible amount of money for our neighbors in Northeast Florida,” said 2019 tournament chairman Adam Campbell. “Every single hour our volunteers commit to this tournament is making a difference in someone else’s life.”
“The First Lady and I commend THE PLAYERS Championship for their charitable contributions to Northeast Florida,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Our state is fortunate to be the home of this great tournament as well as the PGA TOUR, and we’re thankful for their positive impact on the community. We look forward to the continued success of THE PLAYERS Championship both on and off the course.”
