THE PLAYERS Championship returns to the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, May 6-12, with new environmentally friendly green initiatives to help reach the tournament’s recycling and sustainability goals. The green initiatives supporting THE PLAYERS efforts to be environmentally responsible and generate less waste include:
NEW in 2013: Fans Can Help THE PLAYERS Recycle Today for a Greener Tomorrow
- THE PLAYERS is working with Republic Services, based in Jacksonville, to provide comprehensive recycling solutions with waste management services at the tournament, and to make recycling at the tournament as convenient as possible for fans.
- Fans will see improved signage and a greater effort from staff and volunteers monitoring the collection areas to ensure fans are utilizing the proper bins and the tournament is recycling all possible items.
- Republic Services will have single-stream recycling available at THE PLAYERS and accept all recyclable materials in one container. The most commonly recycled items at the tournament include paper, newspaper, magazines and brochures, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and bottles and glass bottles.
NEW in 2013: Energy Audit
- Atlanta-based Southern Company, the Official Energy Company of the PGA TOUR, will conduct an energy audit during the tournament, providing THE PLAYERS with recommendations for using energy wisely and making facilities more efficient at future tournaments.
NEW in 2013: “Four for Free” Parking
- Fans can help the PLAYERS to go green by carpool with other fans to the tournament. Fans with four or more guests in a vehicle can park for free Thursday through Sunday with the “Four for Free” parking pass. Beginning in March, fans can go online to THE PLAYERS website to download the parking pass, which allows free parking in the general lot off of CR 210. A new pass must be downloaded and printed for each day, but there is no limit to the number of days guests can park for free.
Solar Power and Reclaimed Water
- THE PLAYERS in partnership with JEA will have solar power cell phone charging stations at the Stadium Village for fans to access, as well as using reclaimed water in the PwC’s First Tee Challenge. JEA will fill the Challenge area with more than 75,000 gallons of reclaimed water.
