Dreams Come True of Jacksonville recently delivered 500 face masks to Nemours Children’s Specialty Care. The donation of 300 adult masks and 200 youth masks are in connection with the Dreams Come True Virtual 5K (DCT5K) presented by TOTE Maritime, and the event’s initiative for run participants to “get a mask and give a mask.”

Individuals who register for the virtual DCT5K, which started September 26 and runs until October 18, 2020, will receive a face mask and an additional mask will be donated by Dreams Come True to a healthcare partner. Dreams Come True’s goal is to provide masks to its five major medical partners, which includes:  Brooks Rehabilitation, Community PedsCare, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, UF Health and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. The donation is Dreams Come True’s second set of face masks to be provided to a medical partner.

The DCT5K is one of the organization’s signature events, providing funding for its programs and services. Individuals or businesses interested in participating in the virtual DCT5K can visit http://make.dreamscometrue.org/2020 for more details.

Due to COVID-19, more than 60 local children’s dream trips have been postponed, and the number is expected to grow over the next couple of months. Even with recent delays in dream fulfillment, Dreams Come True continues to bring support to local children battling life-threatening illnesses through social-distancing activities, such as: lawn parties, meal deliveries, transplant celebrations, and gift cards.

In 2019, Dreams Come True celebrated 35 years of granting dreams to local children battling life-threatening illnesses.  To date, more than 4,000 local children have seen their dreams turned into reality.
