Mayor Lenny Curry, with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Host Committee, is pleased to announce the 31st annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast presented by Florida Blue. This year’s theme, “Aiming for the Dream,” encourages the Jacksonville community to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King by aspiring to achieve the very principles of equality and service embodied by the civil rights leader.
“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in his words and his actions, boldly demonstrated the principles of understanding, respect, justice, courage and love – vital principles that are integral to our mission for ‘One City. One Jacksonville.’” said Mayor Curry. “We have such tremendous leaders of all ages in our community who are doing incredible work to lift Dr. King’s legacy with their leadership and service. I am grateful to our Committee and citizens for sharing our passion and enthusiasm for this event and our city.”
The breakfast will include keynote speaker Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, the Marine Corps’ first African-American female pilot who propelled herself from beat cop to combat pilot in a record-breaking three years. The program will also honor Tomorrow’s Leaders student award recipients who will be recognized for exemplifying the philosophies of Dr. King through leadership, community volunteerism and civic responsibility.
The breakfast is Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center (1000 Water St. – 32204). Doors open at 7 a.m., and will feature exhibitors and youth portrayals (wax museum) of Jacksonville leaders. The program will begin at 8 a.m. For more information and to purchase tickets (individual tickets, $40; corporate tables, $400) please visit JaxMLKBreakfast.com.
