February 21st, 2014 · Leave a Comment

"War Horse" at the Times-Union Center

OK, Northeast Florida, if you haven’t already, you must see “War Horse,” the five-time Tony Award-winning play that continue Friday, Feb. 21, Saturday, Feb. 22, and Sunday, Feb. 23 at The Times-Union Center.

It’s a heart-warming tale of loyalty and friendship that tells the travails of a young boy and his horse through incredible war-torn times, using astonishing life-size puppets created in South Africa.

Also an Oscar-nominated movie, the play is part of the Artist Series. For more information and tickets, visit the show website.

Monster Jam at EverBank Field, Feb. 22

Looking to unleash your inner redneck? No better time than when the Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam visits EverBank Field on Saturday, Feb. 22. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the engine-revving action begins at 7 p.m.

Prepare to be amazed by the stunts and tricks performed by huge trucks – about 12 feet high and 12 feet wide and sitting atop 66-inch-tall tires — as they face off in racing and freestyle competitions.

Tickets begin at $15. For more information, visit Ticketmaster.

Amy Schumer at The Florida Theatre, Feb. 22

Elsewhere Downtown, get a laugh – or many laughs – with comedian Amy Schumer, who perform Saturday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. at The Florida Theatre.

Schumer’s Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer was recently renewed for a second season, and she’ll be in Jacksonville for one night only.

Tickets are $39 to $46.50 and a few are available at Ticketmaster.

"Swan Lake" at Thrasher-Horne Center, Feb. 23

Finally, on Sunday, Feb. 23, wrap up the weekend with a little classical dance as the Moscow Festival Ballet performs Swan Lake as the Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts in Orange Park.

Petipa’s choreography, Tchaikovsky’s score, talented dancers, beautiful costumes and impressive sets combine to make this show a must-see for lovers of dance and music.

For information and tickets, visit the Thrasher-Horne center website.
